Interesting things happen
when you blink.
Or when you stop trusting in yourself.
Psalm 37:5 says, "Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him, and He will act."
I had a conversation where I was asked where I stood as far as school is concerned. Truth is, I'm a senior at whatever school I go to due to transferring credits. I shared what school I have desired to attend for the past few years, and was encouraged to submit the appropriate paperwork and enroll. I had no funding to return to school, and the dream of obtaining a degree has honestly seemed ridiculous and impossible. That night my pastor preached a sermon on the impossible and improbable God--my return to school seemed both impossible AND improbable, so I thought, "what the heck." I applied.
I had the honor of attending the University of Missouri-Columbia for three years pursuing an interdisciplinary studies degree with an emphasis in History and Religious Studies. Due to recurring illness, I was forced to withdraw from MU prior to graduating. I learned to treasure my time there as I gained many wonderful friends and invaluable experiences while in Columbia. I don't regret a day of my time down there.
I have attended several schools since then with a variety of majors. I have indeed become the "jack of all trades" and "master of none" it seems!
Three years ago I started to be trained under the biblical counseling model. A friend introduced me to Masters International School of Divinity, an online program that has several degrees in Biblical Counseling. I wanted to go back to school, and found myself looking at the program often, off and on. I knew I was not in a position financially to return to school, so it remained a distant dream. Several years ago I had committed to not take any more student loans in order to return to school and complete my degree. I did not want more debt. I believed this ended my future as far as obtaining a degree was concerned.
Oh, Emily of such little faith...
The amazing part to this story... a mere five days after I was initially asked about school, the funding was 100% in place. The registrar called me from the school with a very surprised tone, saying, "I don't know who these people are to you, but whoever they are, you're paid for, can enroll and start school tomorrow. You are very blessed!"
I hung up the phone stunned and completely humbled. I started school officially on April 16th. I am in the bachelors + masters degree progroam for Biblical Counseling. Lord willing, in 45 (or so) credit hours, I will have obtained my Masters Degree in Biblical Counseling. I wasn't sure I would complete my undergraduate, and now I'll have that and more!
Very blessed, indeed!
