As I find myself writing more—and attempting to become a more consistent blogger—I frequently find when an idea pops into my head of what I want to write about I am driving down the highway, or taking a shower, or have my hands deep into some sort of food concoction that I thought would be a “great idea” to try out, only to realize hands coated in whatever the choice of the moment happens to be isn't helpful (and I realize perhaps that food idea was best left to the Paula Dean’s of the world). “Oh! That would make a great blog, I need to remember this,” I think. Sometimes I grab my phone and pull over the car, or reach out of the shower, or (frequently with failure) try to push the “record” button with my chin to avoid getting goo on the phone, all in order to leave an audible note (thank you, Siri) to remind myself of that idea later. Usually it goes like this: Great idea! I want to write about that! I need to write this down… um, can’t write… ok, record… phone… where’s my phone?! I just had my phone… oh, there it… , Siri… hello, Siri? Dang it, pushed the wrong button… Siri… hellllllo? Don’t tell me you can’t help me right now, Siri, that’s what you were designed to do… aHA, okay, Siri, remind me to write about… wait… what was I wanting to write about again? Many an idea has fallen by the wayside of technology (and hands covered in goo). I describe it as a sliding slope off the mountain… the idea starts out up at the top of the mountain, and I helplessly watch it slide off the side of the mountain (as I scramble to find a pen… or pencil… or highlighter… or eyeliner, if available… or my phone, or tablet…) and I often sigh as it slides off the cliff into the murky pool of undeveloped thoughts and ideas waaaaaaaay down below. Rarely am I able (or brave enough) to descend into the murk to reclaim an idea. You have NO idea how many ideas have been lost to highway driving, either. Maybe I should drive the 435 loop again and try to find a few… well, another day. All that to say, here’s my attempt to reclaim those ideas… to get back into writing and move forward on this path as the Lord leads. Enjoy!
Maybe if you write and research the bible and other books enough you can write a book. Writing is a muscle! The more you do it, the better you are. Get some time in.
